Shirataki Noodles Are a New Diet Craze

One of the newest crazes in the diet food industry is Shirataki Noodles. These noodles are found to contain the soluble fiber glucomannan which is free of carbs. This noodle can be used in so many different dishes as a substitute for every kind of pasta. It’s amazing they are now just making their debut. Shirataki is the noodle form of a powder or flour made from the konjac plant.

The Konjac Plant

This is a widely known perennial in Eastern Asian Countries which has been used for centuries to create dishes of varying degrees. This plant is known as the Corpse Flower, Devils Tongue and Voodoo Lilly. It is also known as Konnyaku (Amorphophallus Konjac) and the Elephant Yam in other regions as well. The Konjac plant grows in subtropical and tropical countries and the root, which is used to prepare the flour or jelly for shirataki noodles, can weigh as much as 10lbs.

What is Glucomannan?

A soluble dietary fiber, glucomannan has recently gone to the top of the diet charts as a wonderful additive to a healthy and fit diet regimen. The components of glucomannan are manose and glucose sugars which aide in the digestion of starches and sugars. It has been discovered that a single gram can greatly slow sugar absorption. This is important especially for diabetics trying to regulate their blood sugar level with diet. When we digest sugary foods full of starches and carbs, our sugar levels can spike. This prompts the body to produce too much or not enough insulin. The glucomannan in shirataki noodles slows the digestion of sugars and helps balance insulin levels. This makes it a great asset to diabetics and those looking to lose weight.

Talk About the Ways to Make the Classic Curry

Discovering an authentic Indian curry recipe may brings you lots of fun. People around the global have been familiar with curry for many years. It’s savory, pungent and delectably unique. The word curry normally pertains to a wide range of spicy dishes that has its origins in Asia. If you don’t know any better, the word curry reminds you of a yummy dish cooked with a sauce base. But in India, the word curry usually means a gravy infused with different complementing spices, which they refer to as a ‘masala.’

An authentic Indian curry recipe is a mixture of the major ingredients that is flavored with a blend of spices – the masala. Although you can readily buy an instant curry powder mix in the supermarket, nothing beats the flavor and the aroma of a curry mix that is personally roasted, blended and prepared.

To get you started cooking; here is a recipe for a curry made by a classic masala:

Ingredients:

10 curry leaves

1 teaspoon black mustard seeds

2 tablespoons of coriander seeds

1 teaspoon turmeric

2 teaspoons cumin seeds

2 teaspoons dried chilies

3 centimeter of grated ginger

To begin, put some oil to a wok or big pan and cook the mustard seeds until they crack. Put the ginger, curry leaves as well as the chilies. Stir fry the ingredients for approximately 2 minutes then put it in a spice blender.

Next, dry roast the cumin seeds and the coriander until they become pungent. Once it is aromatic enough, place the mixture along with the spices in the blender. Blend these ingredients altogether until it becomes a powder then put in the remaining spices. For a flavorful treat, you can use the masala in the following recipe.

Lamb Madras

You will need:

1 kilo high quality lamb leg, cut it into cubes

3 tablespoons cooking oil

Use the Masala recipe above

1 chopped onion

1 teaspoon salt

2 garlic cloves, grated

1 tablespoon tomato puree

3 tablespoons white wine vinegar

A handful of chopped coriander for garnishing

250 milligrams vegetable stock (preferably beef)

This is an authentic Indian curry recipe – put he meat in the bowl, to form a paste, mix the vinegar and the masala. Rub the mixture to the meat and marinate for 30 mins. Then fry the garlic and onions in a wok until they are golden brown then add the marinated meat. Fry until the meat is brown then put the tomato puree and stock. Boil the mixture then reduce it to a simmer until the lamb is tender.

Curried Sausages Recipe with Yellow Fried Rice

This kids recipe is an easy beef recipe made with sausages. This recipe can be frozen for up to two months for easy kids dinners.

Place sausages in a large saucepan, cover with water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Drain. Slice on an angle into 2cm-thick slices. Heat oil in a large wide-based casserole pan. Cook onions over medium heat, stirring for 10-12 minutes, or until soft and browned. Add curry powder, cook, stirring for 30 seconds. Add diced potato and toss to coat. Add water, Worcestershire, tomato paste and brown sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Stir in sausages, jam and cream, cook for a further 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir through peas and spinach. Meanwhile, for the rice, heat oil in a large frying pan, add rice and turmeric, cook stirring until heated through. Serve curried sausages with yellow fried rice.

Ingredients
6 thick beef sausages
2 tablespoons Woolworths Select Spanish mellow olive oil
2 onions, halved & thinly sliced
3 teaspoons curry powder
1 large golden delight potato, peeled and cut into 1.5cm dice
2½ cups water
1 tablespoon Woolworths Select Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Woolworths Select tomato paste
1 tablespoon Homebrand brown sugar
2 tablespoons Woolworths Select Apricot jam
½ cup Woolworths thickened cream
1 cup Woolworths Select frozen baby peas
60g baby spinach, optional to serve
Yellow fried rice
1 tablespoon Woolworths Select Spanish mellow olive oil
450g packet Woolworths Select microwave white long grain rice
½ teaspoon Woolworths Select ground turmeric

Directions:
1. Place sausages in a large saucepan, cover with water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Drain. Slice on an angle into 2cm-thick slices.
2. Heat oil in a large wide-based casserole pan. Cook onions over medium heat, stirring for 10-12 minutes, or until soft and browned. Add curry powder, cook, stirring for 30 seconds. Tip1: Freeze for up to 2 months, thaw in refrigerator overnight.
Tip2: Swap the cream with evaporated milk
Tip3: Swap the spinach with 125g can corn kernels, drained and rinsed
